He Looks Up to You

I absolutely love this picture of our son and grandson.

"Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

Deuteronomy 11:19 (NIV)

"Teach ... your children... when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." One can not do this if he or she doesn't spend time with the child.

The most important part of that training is the example we set. You've heard it stated, "Actions speak louder than words." Children will look up to the father and mother who loves them. They will be watching and imitating you. Do you want them doing what you do or what they see on television? Do you want them saying what you say or saying what they hear in the school or neighborhood?

In my opinion a serious problem we face in our society today is farming out our children to baby sitters and group activities while we over work ourselves. And when they are near us, we allow them to be plugged into computers, telephones, etc that rob them of a relationship with us, their parents.

We need to take our job as parents more seriously than many of us do now. What is important to us? Is it money? Is it keeping up with the Joneses? Is is prestige? Or is it God and his glory?
We need to choose. Contrary to what you may hear, we can't have it all. Something gets slighted and very often it is our children. Think about it. What is important to you? And why?
