The Lion Roars

And the lion roars. What a big roar you have there, Caleb. I think I can see your tonsils.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion roars. And in the White House, the mighty White House another lyin roars. But this one roars doublespeak.

According to Wikipedia: Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words. Doublespeak may take the form of euphemisms (e.g., "downsizing" for layoffs), making the truth less unpleasant, without denying its nature. It may also be deployed as intentional ambiguity, or reversal of meaning (for example, naming a state of war "peace"). In such cases, doublespeak disguises the nature of the truth, producing a communication bypass.

The book 1984 chills me even more now than it did when I read it in high school. I am seeing it come to life right before my eyes. If you haven't read it, you should. In it, history was constantly rewritten to fool the younger people who didn't live through it. The computer makes it so much easier now than when that book was written in 1949. I remember first reading about doublespeak in 1984. Today it is used widely, especially by those who aim to destroy our republic.

In our morning paper, a headline reads, "President: Recession is Possible"
Now, would someone please tell this man we are in a recession now? Obviously neither he nor his wife have been affected by it.But we have been since he began his full time job of 'stimulating' the economy in every way but one which would actually accomplish that purpose. His 'Stimulus' bills would be big joke, if they didn't do such serious harm. According to him, he has saved lots of jobs, but we can't find any of them beyond more government employees who sap our economy instead of producing goods and services which account for increased GDP.

Our recession is growing deeper all the time and he has the gall to tell us it is possible we could go into a recession if we don't pass the 'big tax cut' bill he is pushing. You can read 'big tax cut bill' as a bill to keep taxes for one group of people what they have been since George W. Bush lowered the tax during his presidency. There is NO TAX CUT involved. However, he knows that is what we need... a true tax cut, so he uses doublespeak to fool the people. The very sad thing is, he does fool many. But fewer and fewer are convinced by what comes from that teleprompter.

I pray that this bill does not pass and that the Republicans will deliver a real tax cut for all workers when they take their seats in Congress come January 2011.
