Welcome Home

Not only has  ORU been split into North and Southwest (Ohio and Texas), but we have a contingency in Florida. None permanently however. Robin just made her way home from there recently and lucky for her, we had not finished our winter, which she enjoys.  We had a gathering to welcome her home. After eating at Tomato Grill, we regrouped at her house for dessert. All of our 'Yankee' members were there. Well, all except the Yankees who have relocated to the great state of Texas.

We have one Texan who is not yet a grandmother and Robin who is not as well. Neither of them are old enough. But, the rest of us are. And we all want the best for our grandchildren.

Although two have at least one grandchild out of the country, we all need to be very concerned about Common Core.    Defined by Wikipedia:The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an education initiative in the United States that details what K-12 students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade. The initiative is sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and seeks to establish consistent education standards across the states as well as ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit-bearing courses at two- or four-year college programs or enter the workforce.  This all sounds fine, but...

There has been much discussion about the wisdom, or lack of wisdom behind this new curricula.

I, for one, am totally against it, as I would be anything that would control all the schools in the nation. I still believe in freedom.

The state of Indiana has already chosen to tank it.

At present there is controversy over a parent who sent a hard hitting note to his son's teacher about a
common core math problem. Check it out here.

I completely agree with this father and I hope and pray that parents, grandparents and friends of children all over the country check out this crazy new curricula with its stifling text books and ill fitting regulations. Save our children from the hands of freedom's enemies.
