Flag Day

I'm not sure if Caleb 'celebrated' Flag Day or not, but he had  fun at the park.

I had a very special Flag Day. It seemed very appropriate to celebrate by having lunch with two friends from our high school graduating class and Mrs. Packan, my favorite teacher. In my eyes and those of many, many students and parents, she was the best teacher ever. She was my history and government teacher and  taught me to love my country and to think for myself.

What she taught embellished what I was taught by both my fifth and seventh  grade teacher, Mrs. Price.  She was from behind the iron curtain  and had escaped.  She let us know very well what communism was and is.  All children in school today should have a teacher who has lived under that socialistic rule rather than those who have learned about the freedom crushing philosophy at colleges where the profs are ignorant and have swallowed their propaganda.

Mrs. Packan taught for 43 years. Even though she is legally blind, at 97 she is quite sharp.  It was so much fun talking about school with her and what we learned and how well it prepared us for college and the world.  We brought her up to date with what we had been doing, about how things have changed in the classroom, etc. She had so many funny and interesting stories to tell.  I could have talked to her all day.
